Meghaa Parvathy Ballakrishnen, a recent doctoral graduate who most recently held a postdoctoral fellowship from the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute (AGHI), has joined the faculty at the University of Rochester as an Assistant Professor of Art History.

Dr. Ballakrishnen’s scholarship explores 20th and 21st century art with a specialization in South Asia. Her current book project, The Abstract Common, explores the relationship between abstract art and postcolonial criticism. Research for the project has been supported by the American Institute of Indian Studies, the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, the Rockefeller Archive Center, and the Getty Research Institute. Her teaching interests include modern and contemporary art, anticolonial philosophies, comparative aesthetics, and critical theory.

We look forward to following the continued impact of her work.
