The Department of the History of Art’s Graduate Student Lecture Series, along with the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute, presents a lecture with Prof. Emine Fetvaci (Boston University) at 6 p.m. in Mergenthaler 111 on November 6, 2018. The lecture is titled, “The Album of the World Emperor: Trans-Imperial Collecting at the Ottoman Court.” This talk will examine an early-seventeenth century album made for the Ottoman sultan Ahmed I (r. 1603-1617), consisting of Ottoman and Persian calligraphy, paintings, and drawings as well as European prints. The album’s different treatment of Persian and European models and artworks will be considered in light of broader developments in Ottoman art and culture during the early seventeenth century.
